  • Foreign Languages

The study of a foreign language benefits students both linguistically and in a broader cultural sense. Linguistically, students benefit by developing the ability to communicate in a language other than their mother tongue.

Often the knowledge of grammar and syntax gained through learning the foreign language will provide them with a greater appreciation of their own language.Culturally, students become aware that their own culture is simply one of many unique cultures that make up our world.

Classroom work includes group activities, audio/video based tasks and the use of interactive language software.

As members of a multicultural community, it is important that students are aware of the differences and the similarities that exist between cultures. The study of a foreign language provides an ideal forum for future global exposure

All staff members of the school take part in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and adequate resources are allocated to develop their skills.

  • The Library

The school library fosters the development of life-long learning abilities and a love of reading in its students. The library aims to be attractive, uncluttered, friendly and professional. It is both welcoming to students and functional as a resource research and recreational area in the school.

The library stocks a wide range of resource material and has access to many electronically available resources. The library provides teachers with instructional materials and professional resources.

Displays and promotion of different authors and fiction styles of literature are regularly changed to encourage students to read widely. Reading with individuals who seek to improve their ability in this area is undertaken regularly in the library, as is a more general weekly reading club. Personal recommendations and book lists on an increasing range of topics assist students to select and extend their recreational reading.

The focal point is the development of students' information and critical literacy. The teaching of research skills to all students is a high priority in the library and includes instruction on the library catalogue and library systems, so that students will be able to find their way independently around all libraries in the world. It also covers research methods for effective use of resources, Reference books and the Internet. An extensive e-library is also desired for students to prepare presentations of their work and for on-line enrichment.
